Life
The effects of the pandemic have started to fade, many things returning to normalcy. One thing that I predicted would happen has absolutely not happened: I assumed we would slowly drift towards being a 24-hour society, where businesses would always be open. Turns out Wal-marts aren't even 24-hour anymore, and lots of restaurants are closing at like 9pm. Being a night owl is a little tougher than it used to be.
My work life involved leading a few projects, and doing architectural software and system design, implementation, integration and testing. Oh and some whiplash from starts and stops, staffing changes, and the usual fires that pop up.
Books
In my 2023 wrap-up, I forgot to mention that I actually got through a number of books over 2023.
- Things Fall Apart, by Chinua Achebe.
- 12 Rules for Life, by Jordan Peterson
- The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, by Mark Haddon
I have started, but not yet finished Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, by Gabrielle Zevin. I slowly became disinterested, then just stopped, and that makes it hard to jump back in.
I also read The 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman. Interesting way of viewing things. I still have no idea what Kelc's languages are.
Podcasts
I also overdid podcasts, and go through phases of being burnt out on those. For anyone interested, I usually listen to:
